Effet de Com’ : Marseille admit to pursuing Chelsea striker Didier Drogba
Marseille coach Didier Deschamps has admitted that the French champions made an attempt to buy Chelsea striker Didier Drogba over the summer. There were rumours that Marseille bid for the Ivorian in the summer and although this was denied by Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti, Deschamps has indicated that an approach was made for Drogba. Asked by French TV whether Marseille tried to sign Drogba, Deschamps said, « Yes. It’s complicated. Maybe one day he will return, but with each year that goes by, it is going to get more and more complicated. » Chelsea bought Drogba for £24million from Marseille in 2004 and he has since been an incredible success at Stamford Bridge. The 32-year-old is contracted to the Blues until 2012. imscouting.com
