As CD single sales continue to fall, figures released today confirm what specialist record shops have been saying for months: vinyl is back. The research by industry group BPI shows that sales of vinyl have risen 13 per cent in the first half of this year, with the White Stripes’ “Icky Thump” the biggest seller. “Labels have realised that it’s cool for bands to release their music on vinyl,” said HMV’s Gennaro Castaldo, “especially in limited edition form which makes it highly collectable.”
